St. Petersburg and Moscow are two of the world’s most historic and imposing cities, and now you have the chance to combine a visit with playing in a brand new poker series, the Russian Poker Tour. The RPT will bring elite poker tournaments to the country’s most prestigious venues, and you can be there courtesy of PokerStars.
The Russian poker scene has exploded in recent years, with millions of people playing both live and online at PokerStars. Russian poker is a hot property has also produced some of the best players on the scene right now – including Team PokerStars Pro player Alex Kravchenko and WSOP* Main Event runner-up Ivan Demidov, currently the top two highest earning Russian players of all time.
The tour kicked off in the beautiful city of St. Petersburg in January. Then the action moves to the nation’s capital Moscow from 11 to 17 of May, 2009.
RPT Season 1 - Story so far
The first ever PokerStars Russian Poker Tour event went off with a bang in St Petersburg, attracting a big field and an electric atmosphere for this historic occasion. In total 201 players put up the $5,000 entry fee and the field featured notable Team PokerStars Pros Alex Kravchenko and Vanessa Rousso, as well as WSOP* Main Event runner-up Ivan Demidov. Local player Oleg Suntsov began the final table as the short stack, but was able to play his way into contention before taking down the tournament and $300,000 in first place prize money.
